About Gir National Park
Besides Africa, Gir National Park in Gujarat is the only place in the world where you can spot lions roaming free in the wild. The real discovery channel of India is situated approximately 65 km south-east of Junagadh district. The government notified the large geographical extent of Sasan Gir as a wildlife sanctuary on 18th September, 1965 in order to conserve the Asiatic Lion.
It covers a total area of 1,412 square kilometers of which 258 km forms the core area of the national park. From a population of approximately 20 lions in 1913, they have risen to a comfortable 523 according to the 2015 census. Gir is also home to leopards, jungle cats, hyenas, chital, sambar, nilgai, marsh crocodiles and over 300 bird species.
Gir Jeep Safari (6/8 Seaters)
Gir Jeep Safari offers an opportunity to explore Gir National Park, the only natural habitat of Asiatic lions. Conducted in open 4x4 vehicles, the safari takes visitors through dry deciduous forests, grasslands and riverine tracts. Guided by trained drivers and forest experts, tourists can spot lions, leopards, deer and birds. Advance booking is essential due to limited permits. Best visited between December and March.
Devaliya Jeep Safari
Devaliya Jeep Safari, also called the Gir Interpretation Zone, offers a compact wildlife experience ideal for short visits. It increases chances of spotting Asiatic lions along with deer, nilgai and birds. The fenced area ensures sightings within limited time, making it perfect for families and first-time visitors. Bookings are easy and safaris are well-managed throughout the year.
Kankai Safari
Kankai Safari takes you along the scenic route to the historic Kankai Mata Temple, about 26 km inside Gir National Park. The trail follows the Shingoda River through dense forest where lions, leopards and deer are often sighted. Ideal for pilgrims and nature lovers, only a limited number of jeep permits are issued each day for this core-zone route.

The Gir Jungle Trail is the primary safari experience within the core area of Gir National Park. Comprising thirteen designated safari routes, it offers a raw journey through dry deciduous forest — the exclusive home of the majestic Asiatic Lion, roaming freely alongside leopards, hyenas and chital. Conducted in open 6-seater jeeps with registered forest guides, safaris run in morning and evening shifts and remain closed during the monsoon season.

Devalia Safari Park, also known as the Gir Interpretation Zone, is a fenced eco-tourism area spanning over 4.12 sq. km. It offers guaranteed sightings of Asiatic lions, leopards, chital, sambar, nilgai and chausingha within a short 30-to-45 minute tour. Safaris are conducted in AC buses and specialized jeeps. Open throughout the year except Wednesdays — ideal for families and first-time visitors.

The Kankai Temple Route leads to the historic Kankai Mata Temple, 26 km deep within Gir National Park. The journey cuts through dense forest canopies along the Shingoda River. Lions, leopards and deer are frequently spotted along the riverbanks. Only a limited number of safaris are permitted per day in this core zone.
